Friendship
Friendship
This value is so important in getting on with each other. Without friends school life can be hard and so it is vital that everyone has a set of friends they can share their school time with. We encourage a variety of friends in school, class friends, MESSC Day friends, House Captain friends and Peer Mentor friends. Children learn how to treat each other and what happens when they fall out of friendships. These aspects are really important to talk through and to begin to understand other people’s feelings and opinions.
-
Respect
Respect
We believe that respecting each other is key to the children becoming responsible and understanding how others live, think and act. We talk a lot about respecting everyone at our school and valuing each other’s differences. We have a diverse and multi-faith community so respecting all opinions is vital to ensure everyone feels they belong and part of our school.
-
Excellence
Excellence
We are all on a learning journey and every day we must approach the next part of the journey with excellence. We must aim high and try our very best in everything we do. This includes academically and personally, in the classroom and in before and after school clu bs, during playtimes and at home. Our thirst for excellence in all we do will motivate and encourage each child to have a positive growth mindset and achieve all their dreams and goals.
-
Determination
Determination
This value describes both our learning behaviours and our strength of character. We believe that everyone has a growth mindset and that everyone can succeed and achieve more with determination, perseverance, self-belief, motivation and encouragement. Together we will achieve more!
-
Love
Love
Love is a central value which underpins all others. It was the value most voted for by our staff and children and it is one that even our smallest children understand. We must learn to love and appreciate each other in all we do.
-
Equality
Equality
We talk a lot about equality and the history behind it. How historical figures have had to fight for equality of gender and race. The fact that we are a school who do whole school celebrations and whole school MESSC Days it shows how equality and unity is intrinsically part of our school life.
-
Responsibility
Responsibility
This is a value which develops throughout the school. From developing the responsibility of tidying up the book corner to taking the registers to the teachers at lunchtime to becoming a Year 6 House Captain. All responsibility is linked with trust and honesty which are learning behaviours at the heart of our school.
-
Trust
Trust
Trust is an important part of friendships and getting on with each other. Honesty in school life is vital and in all situations we trust the children to be honest and to stand up to the consequences of their actions. We always talk about honesty being the best policy and that without honesty there can be no trust.

Democracy
Democracy
The school values pupil voice and the role pupils have in bringing about improvements. We ask the pupils about their learning, their concerns and ideas about how we can make things better. They are involved in recruitment of staff at all levels.
We do this by using pupil questionn aires and through our School and ECO Councils, and our dedicated House Captains.
At the start of each year, children vote and elect their nominated Year 6 House Captains and Vice House Captains through an election process to show democracy in action. Through their class representatives children have the opportunity to ha ve their voices heard through the Eco Council and School Council too.
The House captains are involved in taking assemblies during Anti-bullying week and organising school competitions.

The Rule of Law
The Rule of Law
We have a comprehensive Behaviour Policy which sets out clear expectations and each class looks at rights and responsibilities at the start of each year to enable them to see how their behaviour always has a consequence. Children understand the behaviour expectations and know what happens if they do not make the right choices.
During PSHE lessons and Collective Worship, children learn about the importance of having rules and how these relate to laws. We use a range of PSHE resources to promote moral, spiritual, social and cultural awareness among our pupils.
Our children have a well-developed sense of justice and are able to discuss why there needs to be consequences for those who break the rules or laws.
Through our consistent behaviour policy, our PSHE lessons, MESSC Days and assemblies we share our School Values which guide and support our children in developing a clear understanding of how their actions can impact upon others.
-
Individual Liberty
Individual Liberty
Alongside rights and responsibilities and laws, we promote freedom of choice and the right to respectfully express views and beliefs. Through the provision of a safe, supportive and nurturing environment, we provide boundaries for our children to make choices safely. Here are some ways in which we do this;
- Choices around the participation in extra-curricular activities.
- Choices about lunchtime options.
- Choices on what or who to vote for when we do whole school voting Eg favourite song, school values
Our Behaviour Policy is built on the principle that children are responsible for their own actions and choices and that these have consequences. During PSHE, E-Safety lessons and Collective Worship, pupils are taught how to keep themselves safe whilst they exercise their rights and personal freedoms. Safeguarding is embedded in every aspect of life at the school.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance
Mutual Respect and Tolerance
Our School motto, Learning is a journey, not a race, promotes the values of respect and friendship. Adults actively model respect with one another and with the children. This is shown through how we speak to and treat one another. Through our curriculum, we promote an awareness of different faiths and we encourage our pupils to recognise and understand these faiths. Our pupils naturally show tolerance for others and have a curiosity to find out and understand cultures and faiths that are different from their own.
